About our bones
Do you know how many bones we have? We are born with more than 300
bones. However, some bones fuse together as we grow up. The skeleton
of an adult consists of 206 bones. The longest bone in our body
is the thigh bone, which measures about 1/4 of our height. Guess
where the smallest bone is. It is inside our ears. The U-shaped
ear bone, the stapes, is only about 2 mm long!

Arthritis
Arthritis (關節炎) is the inflammation of a joint. Two of the more
common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis (骨關節炎) and rheumatoid
arthritis (類風濕性關節炎). Osteoarthritis is characterized by the wearing
away of cartilage in the joint. Cartilage cushions the ends of bones.
The breakdown of it causes the bones to rub together. In rheumatoid
arthritis, the immune system of the body attacks the synovial membrane
for unknown reasons. The inflamed membrane then invades and destroys
the nearby cartilage and bones. Both kinds of arthritis cause great
pain and limited movement in the joints.
