Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity, i.e.

Acceleration = change in velocity per unit time

It is a vector quantity and its SI unit is metre per second squared (m s^-2). A body has an acceleration if it changes its velocity or state of motion.

If a car travels in positive direction with acceleration, it would travel faster and faster.
